Frequently-Asked
Questions on Trees in Englewood Cliffs
Q.
What should I do when I see someone cutting down a tree?
Call the police 201-569-8300. Ask if a tree removal permit has been issued
to that address. If they have no record of a permit being issued, ask that they
come to the address to stop the work until someone can produce a permit to cut
down a tree. Act immediately-once the tree is down, it is too late!
Q. What should I do if tree branches are into the power-lines?
Contact Public Service Electric and Gas Company Forestry Division. Call
Guy Vogt-201-330-6557 or 1-800-821-6684
Q. Which lines are power lines?
Only the uppermost wires are power lines-all others are telephone and
cable lines.
Q. What should I do if my tree is dead or dying?
If the tree is within 10 feet of the curb call Yvonne Favaro 201-568-1776.
If the tree is on your property, call Renee Lerner 201-567-8798. .
If the tree is on your neighbor's property, call your neighbor and give him
or her the appropriate number.
Q. Who should I hire to prune or remove my tree?
Only hire a Certified Tree Expert. They are certified by the state to have met
all the requirements and passed all the tests necessary for that certification
and have been given a CTE #. Ask for it. Hiring anyone without it
might do more harm than good and, in the end, cost more.
Q. How can I donate a tree planted at Witte Memorial Field?
Visit Borough Hall, look at the map in the showcase, choose the tree you want
and speak to the Borough Clerk who will give you the form to fill out and collect
your check.
Q. What should I do about a dangerous situation of a shade tree being uprooted
by storm, wind or otherwise?
The property owner is responsible for reporting such a situation to the Department
of Public Works- 201-568-0242. If it is an emergency, call the police 201-569-8300.
